Tips for Fifth Graders

Did you just finish fourth grade?  Are you worried about attending a new school?  Here are some tips to help make the move to 5th grade a lot less stressful.

In fifth grade, you don't need to worry about switching classes.  Fifth grade classes are self-contained and your baseroom teacher teaches all subjects.  The fifth grade is split into two clusters, (Cluster A and Cluster B).  Each cluster consists of four teachers.  You will also have a teacher for your specials - art, music, physical education, and technology. You will also have an introduction to foreign language at the end of the year.

In middle school you have the opportunity to stay after school for one hour when necessary.  You can get extra help or participate in after-school activities.  Late-buses are available to busers at 3:40 daily (excluding Fridays).  If you are not a buser, you must arrange your own transportation home.

Also in 5th grade, you should expect 40-60 minutes of homework daily.

In 5th grade, each student is given a locker.  Locks are not provided by the school, but students may use locks if they purchase them.  (Locks are available at the school store.)
